1. Adjective + Ly

Many adverbs are formed by adding “-ly” to an adjective.

Here are the major spelling rules for -ly added to the adjective:

•  ( y becomes i and ly is added.)
•  (after adjectives ending in -ic add -ally 
•  (the silent e is dropped and ly is added)
•  (after ll, add y)
•  (-ic with a consonant before the ending becomes –ically)
