1. Adjective + Ly

Many adverbs are formed by adding “-ly” to an adjective.

Quick – quickly

Nice – nicely 

Here are the major spelling rules for -ly added to the adjective:

 ( y becomes i and ly is added.)

 (after adjectives ending in -ic add -ally 

 (the silent e is dropped and ly is added)

 (after ll, add y)

 (-ic with a consonant before the ending becomes –ically)
